I have dropped the SG down to about 1.12 and have noticed a definite increase in flashing. At full salt water it was occasional not at a lower SG seems more frequent and am noticing a coughing motion again.

But going to a run a sulfa antibiotic and Fenbendazole concurrently and then run him back up to full salt water. There was definitely less black/grey belly at higher SGs.

Why are you going to use medication? Are you afraid that increasing of the SG isn't enough?

well I had him at full salt SG for pretty much 5 days and the flashing continued, so that didn't solve the problem.

thus I am dropping to SG to make the 50% daily water changers easier and running to two different meds in case it is a bacteria or parasite gill problem. Kind of a shot in the dark.

Why the antibiotics? Is still get the feeling it's parasites that are the cause.

yes, running the antibiotic just in case, and I read that the sulfa meds are supposed to be highly effective against gill disease.

but this morning I awoke to a lethargic fish and then noticed this:





they are poor quality photos, but the one eye is starting to cloud over and there is something else going on in the lower left corner as well.

After I dosed the tank yesterday he began frequently flashing the one side against the glass and I noticed him pushing his eye in into his body against the glass several times also as well as a frequent twitching motion towards that side.

That is the enlarged side, the side that he was always flashing, and naturally at a loss for an explanation. Possible theory is that there are/were in fact parasites in that area which were affected by the fenbendazole and either exited the body and/or dies in the tissue. Hopefully the API Triple Sulfa will manage the cloudy eye, otherwise I will add a gram opposite antibiotic to whatever the triple sulfa is.

How is your water quality?
Sometimes eye’s could be cloudy ‘cause of an ammonia poisoning.

It could be a bacterial infection, or damage on the eye.
I can’t really see what’s going on in the corner. It looks like a air bubble or something, am I correct?

there is no dedicated test kit for brackish and according to API the best one to use is the freshwater although the colour charts will not match up ...

but I am managing the ammonia with Seachem Prime which I am comfortable with. I was skimming before and shut it down because of the meds and worst case shouldn't be able to spike too much in 24 hours anyways.

Plus it is only 1 eye and there seems to be a bubble like area the lower left area, so yes possibly trauma.
